Water Damage After a Fire
I am working on a project in San Francisco that started out as a fire project, and quickly turned into a water damage and mold project. The fire started on the top level of a three story apartment building. The fire damage was pretty minor but it took over 1700 gallons of water to put it out. Thats 1700 gallons of water! That water had no where to go but down, and the resulting damage to the two units below is somewhere in the neighborhood of $300,000 to repair. On top of that... the tenants below did not have renters insurance so they have no where to go and no way to pay for emergency housing until the work is complete. Everyone knows that a fire can be devastating, but not too many people realize that the fire suppression water can cause even more damage. If you rent... get insurance!
