H1N1 Swine Flu Cleaning
I had a call from a guy in San Francisco about which product is best for disinfecting a school after a student has contracted H1N1. Thats such a good question that I decided to do some research on the subject. Heres the deal... no one knows! The problem is that there is no surrogate for testing whether or not a product will be effective against H1N1. Whats a surrogate? Well... take Anthrax... no one has Anthrax laying around that they can use for testing the efficacy of a product, but there is a surrogate organism that is very similar to Anthrax that can be used for testing. If a product is effective against the surrogate, then it will work on the target organism. Now, with H1N1, there is no surrogate for testing a product. So, what should you use? There is a product that is very effective against influenza a & b, and that is JYMRSA MDF500. This two part mix can be used to wet-wipe surfaces, it can be sprayed using a spray bottle or garden sprayer, or it can be fogged. Bleach and water may also be effective, but it cannot be used as a fog to penetrate hard to reach places, and the byproducts of bleach may be harmful. JYMRSA is a peroxide based product that breaks down into H2O and O2. You dont get any greener than that. The website www.jymrsaclean.com has more information, as well as MSDS sheets and efficacy studies on influenza a & b, bacteria, and mold, etc., that can be downloaded as PDF's.
